Heworth Youth Pantomime
Each January for many years, a pantomime has been staged at Heworth Methodist, the result of several weeks of hard work (and fun) by the young people and their leaders. The money raised goes to charity.
I remember the first time I took my children to a performance when they were quite small, expecting something quite amateurish and mildly amusing. It turned out to be completely hilarious, pretty much up to anything offered by the Theatre Royal, with a similar mix of silliness, slapstick, 'special' effects, local gags and spoofs of well known TV shows. The scriptwriter was a young Chris Haitliff, then a teenager in our church. Now a drama teacher elsewhere, he is still providing the scripts, and the standard is as high as ever - a treat to look forward to every January!
